The Comics Bakery is a collective of comic creators based in NYC who often collaborate and appear at conventions, art shows, and public events together.
Dave draws the webcomic series Astronaut Elementary, and is partially responsible for several books including Agnes Quill: An Anthology of Mystery (Slave Labor Graphics), Jax Epoch & the Quicken Forbidden (AiT/PlanetLar), and Teen Boat (Cryptic Press). He’s had stories in Flight volumes 3 and 4 (Ballantine/Villard) and Bizarro World (DC Comics). Dave is also one of the co-founders of Lifemetercomics.com and an associate editor at Nickelodeon Magazine. He is a Harvey Award nominee, and an Ignatz Award winner.
Raina is perhaps best-known for her graphic novel adaptations of the Baby-sitters Club series, published by Scholastic Graphix. She also draws a weekly webcomic, SMILE (A Dental Drama), and has been self-publishing her mini-comic series Take-Out since 2000. Raina has contributed comics to Flight volume 4 (Villard), Bizarro World (DC Comics), Agnes Quill (Slave Labor Graphics), the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, and numerous anthologies and magazines. She has been nominated for several awards, including the Eisner and the Ignatz.
John is the artist and co-creator (with Dave Roman) of the Harvey Award nominated series Jax Epoch & the Quicken Forbidden and the Ignatz Award winning mini-comic Teen Boat. He's also the creator of the mini-comic Space Office and the computer game Nearly Departed. For nearly 10 years John was the Comics Consultant at Disney Adventures Magazine. Additional credits include writing a number of Shrek and Madagascar comics for Titan Publishing's Dreamworks magazine and lettering books for Scholastic's Graphix line.
Marion is a Watercolor Illustrator and Comic Artist whose contributions can be seen in Rabid Rabbit anthologies, Friends of Lulu’s The Girls’ Guide to Guys’ Stuff anthology, and most recently in Boho Baby, a knitting book published by Potter Craft. No In-Between and Squid 'n' Whale: Forbidden Friends are her self-published mini-comics.
The Comics Bakery has worked on an eclectic mix of products including graphic novels, mini-comics, traditional comics, original videogames, t-shirts, stickers, buttons, fanzines, doujinshi, and Wizard Rock CDs. Most of these items are for sale at our convention appearances, and some can be bought through our online store or various retailers.
The Comics Bakery evolved out the publishing efforts of:
John Green and Dave Roman, who formed Cryptic Press in 1994;
Raina Telgemeier, who published under the name Take-Out Comics starting in 2000;
and Marion Vitus, who began releasing issues of No In-Between in 2005.
Even though we continue to serialize new works online and in print, several of our books are published by other people:
Jax Epoch from AiT/Planet Lar
Agnes Quill from SLG Publishing
The Baby-sitters Club graphic novels from Scholastic Graphix
Flight from Villard Books
Bizarro World from DC Comics
